When Heinrich Carl Kröplin settled down in 1883 in his native town of Bützow (once the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin) as a self-employed master watchmaker, no one would have thought that this was the conceptual foundation for a highly specialized company with international standing. And yet even then there was a hint of internationality, because HC Kröplin not only owed his training to teachers in various major German cities. He attended the Swiss technical school and then worked in companies on Lake Geneva and in southern France.
In his workshop he soon realized his own developments in the field of measuring devices. He collected information about potential users and the latest methods at the Paris World Exhibition, among other places. His first successes included spherometers and lensmeters for the optical industry, as well as barometers. In a very short time, the watchmaker's workshop became a manufacturing company that was constantly involved in development, concluded contracts with importers in many European countries and in the USA, and whose products were among the special features of the Leipzig trade fairs. When HC Kröplin's son-in-law, the electrical engineer Gustav Adolf Stier, joined the company in 1909, a second company was opened in the university town of Rostock,
