In the future, access to security and theft-related repair and maintenance information for vehicle workshops will be guaranteed via the new, standardized authorization procedure SERMA (Secure Repair and Maintenance Authorization). The Federal Guild Association (BIV) presented the new system at the meeting of the federal specialist group “Independent Workshops” on October 8th in Würzburg. SERMA includes a new accreditation scheme that has already been tested through the successful implementation of the accredited inspection in the motor vehicle trade (AÜK).
Wilhelm Hülsdonk, Federal Guild Master and Vice President of the Central Association of the German Motor Trade (ZDK), underlines the importance of the project: “SERMA will be the big sister of the AÜK. The standardized authorization procedure makes it easier for independent market participants to access security and theft-related repair and maintenance information. This strengthens fair competition and thus also the economic power of the medium-sized vehicle workshops in Germany.”
"Thanks to our know-how and experience from the AÜK accreditation, we are well prepared to implement this further accreditation in the interests of our member companies," adds Werner Steber, Managing Director of the workshops and technology department at the ZDK.
Standardized access to theft and security-related repair and maintenance information is regulated by a new annex to the Type Approval Regulation (EU) 2018/858, which was already published on July 23, 2021. In order for independent market participants such as car workshops to gain access to this repair and maintenance information from the vehicle manufacturers, the car workshops and their employees will need to be authorized by an independent conformity assessment body in future.
The accreditation must be implemented throughout the EU by mid-2023 and represents a further simplification for companies in accessing theft and security-related repair and maintenance information.
